3 Ways to Celebrate Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras,
French for Fat Tuesday, typically includes consuming richer, more fattening foods in preparation, of fasting for Lent. But everyone can take part in the celebration from decorating masks, to trying a spicy new dish—we suggest one of our recipes with Sweet Chili or Salsa Fresca crisps—to hosting a costume contest with the kids.

Everyone loves a good party. But you don’t necessarily need to hang out on Bourbon Street for a good time. You can fill up on goodies and celebrate Fat Tuesday right at home with these fun and kid-friendly ideas.

Turn up the Heat

It’s not a Fat Tuesday celebration without food…and lots of it! Treat yourself to classic dishes like chicken gumbo or Cajun jambalaya, or you can try one of our easy Riceworks recipes. The kids will love our Spicy Chili Chicken Crunchies or our Nachos Supreme recipes and they’ll love helping too!

Celebrate Mardi GrasMasquerade Party

Gather the kids around and lay some newspapers down because this fun, messy craft will definitely be the favorite. You can get a pack of white masks cheap at any craft store. Grab some purple, green and yellow paint and some glitter and you’ll be set for a mask decorating contest! While your masks are drying, you can move on to the most fun part…

Sweet, Sweet Desserts

This is where you can get really creative. Whether you want to make purple, green, and gold cupcakes or masquerade cutouts or bananas foster, you’ll end your Fat Tuesday on a sweet (and full!) note.
