Dog Days of Summer: 4 Ways to Beat the Heat
As temperatures reach well beyond sweltering and the humidity rises, it’s clear that we are in the thick of summer. No worries though! We’ve got 3 ways to beat the heat and keep yourself cool during these dog days of summer.
- Take a break from cooking: You probably don’t have a huge appetite anyway, and we’re sure the last thing you want to do is turn on the oven. Leave the cooking for another day and reach for a snack—in the shade.
- Cool down with a refreshing drink:Whether you love water or would rather quench your thirst with a fruit juice, iced tea or a sports drink filled with electrolytes, be sure to keep something to drink close to you.
- Stay inside: It might seem like common sense, but even sitting in the shade when the sun is scorching down could still cause your body to overheat. If you can, crank up the air or choose activities that are inside when the temperatures soar.
- Be a good neighbor: Be sure to check on your neighbors and loved ones—especially those who are elderly or handicapped—to make sure they have everything they need. Especially in those parts of the country where hot weather can create some pretty nasty storms, be sure to establish contact with your neighbors, friends and family.
The important thing here is to make sure you don’t overdo it. You can tend to the garden next week and you can save that six mile run for another day. Grab some Riceworks and your beverage of choice and relax a little…you deserve it!
